How do I route email to another mail provider?

By Windy Hosting • May 21, 2026

To route email to another mail provider in Plesk, first open the domain’s Mail Settings and disable the local mail service for that domain. This helps prevent Plesk from trying to handle mail locally when email should be delivered to an external provider.

Next, open Websites & Domains > DNS Settings for the domain and update the MX record to the mail server given by your new mail provider. The provider may also ask you to add or update other records, such as SPF, DKIM, or DMARC, so follow their DNS instructions carefully.

Your website and email can be hosted in different places. The website can continue pointing to your web hosting server while the MX records route email to another mail provider.

Good to Know: If your domain’s DNS is managed outside Plesk, the MX and related email records must be updated where the DNS is actually hosted.
